    Setting up Konis

    Hi All

I've picked up a set of NOS Konis for my '69. Can anyone recommend the correct number of bump stop rings? They have a large bump stop and an additional two rubber rings. My searches indicate that you don't use the two additional rings if I want a "Euro" height?

    Cheers

Resurrecting this thread rather than starting a new as I'm going through the same process of installing Koni's. Any suggestions?

Ride height will determine what you need. Set up the car with the dust caps off so you can see the bump stop rubber. You will need a large top washer to simulate the top of dust can. See how much room you have. If the shock runs to close to the bottom, fully collapsed, you will blow the foot valves out. The bump stops will keep this from happening. You got to figure this out. Thanks Gordon! Is there any rule of thumb or guidance on how much "travel" there should be?

The bumpstops that come with the Koni's have one big chunk of rubber at the top then 3 donuts at the bottom. For Euro height, or there about, how much rubber do people commonly keep?

I'd leave all the rubber that comes with the shocks on. Put a tie wrap at the top of the body of the shock. Drive the car as hard as you are going to use it and see if the tie wrap has moved up to the bump stops, (which I doubt), if it has remove, one bump stop.
You don't want to have the bump stop serve as part of the shock as it will cause you to lose that end of the car.
