Ex-David Purley Shellsport championship winning car. Offered with very comprehensive spares package.

Unique and fascinating F5000 car with a great history. It is Chassis Number B30-1 and was constructed by Chevron for David Purley of Bognor Regis, England in 1975 and heavily revised and rebuilt for him over the winter of 1975/76 using a new chassis. Fitted with a Cosworth V-6 GAA 4-camshaft fuel-injected engine of 4.2-liter displacement developing approximately 440 bhp at 8,500 rpm. It has a Hewland FGA 5-speed transmission. In 1975 Purley won the second race he contested in the car at Brands Hatch on Easter Monday and also won the Oulton Park Gold Cup at the Cheshire circuit in September.

Purley was essentially unbeatable in the rebuilt and improved B30 during 1976, winning six races to easily capture the Shellsport 5000 Championship. Believed retained by Purley and not raced again after his championship year. Sold after his death in 1985 with all the spares to Dick Leppla of Chevron Cars USA who commissioned a complete rebuild. He raced in once in 1988 before selling it to the present owner who ran it very successfully at a number of events in the 1990s.

The B30 comes with the original 1975 chassis as a spare, which could be easily built up into another complete car. Also included are two more complete GAA engines, one an alloy block, the other iron that were both built up and run on the dynamometer, but never used. There are also crates full of cylinder blocks, heads and other engine and chassis parts, some new, some used. Also in the spares package are the original casting patterns for the cylinder blocks and heads. Additionally there are multiple sets of wheels and various rear and front wing configurations. In short this is the most comprehensive spares package one could ever hope to find.

The current owner is unable to drive the B30 due to physical problems, which is the only reason it is for sale. It is a great handling machine and in the right hands can be a winner again.

    Very interesting car Peter,

    FWIW,

    - David Purley is the hero driver in the '73 Dutch GP that we've all seen try unsucessfully to save Roger Williamson from his burning wreck...

    - That 4 cam Cosworth 4lt V6 was usually used to power the 'big' Capri RS's

I've never seen that Chevron before..... Thanks

    Chuck,
i think you mean roger williamson.
Also Interesting bit of trivia about david purley was that at Silverstone the throttle stuck open and he crashed with incredible violence. Purley was subjected to the highest G-force ever survived by a human being - 179.8G - when the car went from 108mph to zero in just over half a metre...?
