Well, I cant understand why you are so slow Raj. It took you over five minutes to buy these.

Seriously, you must be pleased. I saw your wanted ad some weeks back. Patience is a virtue. Well done to you.

At least I know what these struts look like now! It turns out, unwittingly, I might actually have some and never knew. I will check later (they are still attached to a car)

    Regards

I don't know. I am not familiar with this type of strut. The internal condition is unknown.

It looks like there is orange paint underneath the black paint. I did not repaint them.

Yes, as far as I've seen...

...they are not supposed to be rebuildable-but have been talking to some mercedes and citroen guys and they say it maybe possible-anyone been down this untraveled unpaved stupid road except me.
    Raj,
As far as I've heard this procedure may be the only thing that might be LIFE THREATENING while working on an Early 911...... seriously, mechanics have told me they quit trying to rebuild these 30 years ago fearing for their lives... Maybe Ed M. can elaborate....

They just weren’t very good to begin with... they failed, and were almost impossible to work on... that's why everyone took'm out

I'm not sure of the result of a failed hyrdo-strut... again, someone like Ed M. could bring more light on this....

I do know of mechanics with holes in their ceilings from hydo shafts letting go from the struts while being 'worked' on in a vice.... and all they could talk about was how close their heads were to the 'shot'. The pressure on the top fixture and shaft in the strut equals the springing rate for a torsion bar front end.... all coming out of about an 1 1/2 inch bore... think small cannon....

so akin to trying to compress a spring on a modern car using a spring compressor from harbor freight?
