Not to encourage thread drift, Harry...

but time-elapsed video of you taking a Sawzall to this car would have made for great YouTube material.

Hope someone that needs the metal scoops it up. Good luck with the sale.

I should have.. it would have been nsfw though.. lots of cussing.. lots of broken sawzall blades. those tubes that go through the frames are TOUGH!

my dad was holding out on me :grr: told me on sunday that i should have had his ox accelteline tanks filled and used his cutting torch. :O needless to say im going to finish it that way. if anyone likes the smell of burning tar and horse hair, you are more than welcome to join.

And yes.. i just hope someone can use this. Did you see the dash/cowl? now that was a BIG pain in the neck to cut.

Torch cutting a car is gruesome work. Sawzall is much smoother and makes for more usable pieces.

You did some good work, though. I'd have suspected you're pre-Med with cuts like those.

at this point there is only one other part i am saving, the torsion tube. someone has asked for it and money talks so its coming out. other than that the rest of the cutting will be for chopping it into pieces i can move by hand. gotta take to to a scrap yard to squeeze every last dime out of it.

I don't wish to cause any heartache, but I think the 912 is different from the 911 in the corner braces. I have to replace this part on my SWB 911, and I got a 912 rear clip before a saw the difference. (It makes sense if you think about the relative sizes of the engines.) The 911 corner braces are a lot bigger.

If someone's 911 has strong braces, and they are willing to cut around the braces on their car, and then carefully cut off the 912 braces, they probably can get everything to fit, but I have gotten to that point, yet, with mine.

Again, my apologies, but from what I can see on mine, the 912 and 911 are not completely interchangeable.

At the same time, I'd be overwhelmingly grateful if someone showed me that they were interchangeable. It would save me A TON of work.

you're talking about the motor mounts? those are different but easily changable. see what mike did here http://www.early911sregistry.org/for...troduce-myself.

just cut off the 912 mounts off the sides, then cut of the triangular metal pieces that sit where the 911 mounts should be in thr corners, and weld in the corner 911 engine mounts. which is really no big deal to do (especially if youre welding in a clip). other than those mounts, a 911 chassis is exactly the same as a 912 chassis. and if i recall the 911 mount is available new.. someone even said that if porsche didnt want people to convert 912s to 911s, they wouldnt sell the mounts.

and porsche wouldnt have developed two chasis when making a 912.. it was supposed to be a quick easy entry model with little to no thought about building it.. just how to stuff a 4 in place of a 6.. and you do that by those mounts i explianed above, and a different gear box.

Harry's post answers the question. In my project, we're trying to avoid cutting the exiting frame, so we're trying to disconnect the rear crossmember from the frame, which means addressing the corner mounts. We both agree the engine mounts are different for 911 and 912, and we both agree the frame for both is the same, so Harry's approach to make the 912 rear clip fit for a 911 application seems pretty simple. Thanks, Harry! You've helped me with my project, too.
