    Carb upgrade for 911t

    Hello,

could someone tell me if Zenith 40ida carbs can be modified to improve performance or would I need to replace the carbs for a different type, if there is a simple mod could someone explain what needs to be done and how much were talking.

what would be the best type of carbs to purchase if I was looking for an upgrade.... I'm running 2.2 71 engine...

    Thank lee

    hi Lee

there was a kit available supposedly way back when, for pepping up the Zenith T. bigger venturis and so on good for another 10-15hp. Some one correct me if I'm wrong.

i have a 2.2T, and after a reseal job and new rings, it was like a different engine. in my own case, did not think the zeniths were the limiting factor.

Stoddard used to sell an upgrade kit with larger venturis from the original 27 mm, but that was a long time ago.

Webers are a popular upgrade with 30 mm venturis and jets to match. I bought the complete kit from PMO for my 2.2 T engine and I felt some more power. But nothing dramatic.

Thanks for your help guys, my engine was rebuilt about five years ago, problem is its has been sitting not doing much for about four years, nothing done to the carbs so if they come apart I might as well upgrade with bigger ventures etc.

Would be good to know if there is a kit still available,

    Cheers lee

    Lee,

I tried to find the stoddard kit for a while with no luck.

That said, a few folk make venturi's (check Pelican) Alternatively, they are not that difficult to have machined if you know someone with a lathe. Zenith jets are available on ebay. I think the stoddard kit also included some 'sporty' air filters and a recommendation for a sport muffler.

The common view seemed to be that the T motor was detuned somewhat by the factory and the kit 'undid' that.

really appreciate your help... my car goes in for maintenance soon for a lot of work, so will ask the guy to come up with some ideas for the carbs..
I'm having the following work done....

complete brake overhaul inc caliper rebuild...
new threaded Oil Tank & Oil Hoses,
    new batteries and terminals..
    geometry check on steering,
new link bushes & small service.

Had the car for 6 months but could not use because the brakes were crap....Im hoping I can drive the damn thing soon.

    thanks Lee

in my experience, 911T brakes are a weak point in terms of performance. Rather than upgrade to S-alloys, I bought the Eric PMB vintage Brembo drop ins. alloy and bigger, newly rebuilt, and really stops the car. not cheap tho, but cheaper than changing the struts to accomodate S brakes.

the original T brakes didnt really communicate to you if they were going to stop the car or not. I had one too many, maybe-maybenot moments. Really assured braking now.

    Hi Reza,

I have an early 69 number 8 off the production line and was told to upgrade the discs to vented and have the calipers overhauled,
I'm trying to keep the car as original as possible but will do some minor changes to make it more user friendly..
Im a novice but learning every day, I guess will make a few mistakes along the way maybe this is one but just want to get it to a
usable state before the summer time.....next year will be a full body resto but for now mechanical before repaint back into light ivory.

appreciate your help and advise...Lee D
