1973 Window Surrounds (Anodize or Chrome)?

I am in the midst of restoring a 1973 S and the window brightwork is in need of some assistance. In talking with several folks that I believe to have a good understanding of Porsche history, I was told that while the brightwork was primarily anodized, it was available from the factory in chrome. This had clearly been done in prior years, but I am trying to obtain verification that chrome was indeed an option for the window surrounds in 1973. Any thoughts out there? If anodizing is the "proper" solution, any recommendations of a shop to do this work? To date, finding someone who had not had an issue with anodizing has proven difficult (and has perhaps driven my inquiry toward the "chrome option").

Thanks in advance for your help!

    scolson,

I have not heard of a 'chrome option' for the bright work of our later-early cars. As far as I know all '73's came with clear anodized bright work.

Many on this board have used King of Trim (old name was Ano-Brite) with very good results.

I have personally used them for 19 pieces of original anodized trim on my '67 Malibu... they all came out perfect.

They are other options... but very few.

    Hope this helps

If your '73S happens to be a Targa model, it would have come with chromed brass door window frames (with opening quarterlights)

    As far as I know...
Glad I put that in Andy.... Didn't realize that they were still doing the chromed brass on Targas by the 2.4's

I learn every day... and it's probably on this board somewhere......

Now, were the Targa frames still anodized as well? I don't recall the look on the '73 Traga trim any different than the coupes....

    Cheers

Chuck - '69-'73 Targas still used chromed brass door window frames (you can't anodise chrome or brass - only aluminium/aluminium alloys) - presumably because it was 'stiffer' than aluminium (which was needed due to the lack of a top section of the window frame in Targas).

Do the targa frames have a different contour or shape than the ones on the coupes do?

If the car is a coupe the trim should be a process called Bright Dip.

Yes, coupe frames go around the door glass. Targas stop at the vent upright.
Coupes were chrome up to and including 67 and bright anodized aluminum after. Black available 74>
It is a difficult process, but KOT seems to have it down.
