911 or 911S question - call with PCNA

    Hey guys,
I bought a 68 911 last month with little history/documentation. In trying to figure out what it is I have, I called porsche north america to see if they could provide engine/trans numbers for my VIN. Took them a few weeks, but left me a message last night, and was pleased to find out that the original motor is in the car (dont know about trans as I cant see the number without a lift.)

Her message: "Your 911S with vin 11830021 had 3280042 engine, 3280153 trans originally." I was surprised to hear her note that it was an S, so called back and the rep confirmed it was a "S as in Sam."

I was under the impression that S cars were not imported into the US in 68? No S badges on the car. What do you think it is I have here?

    Thanks

That all fits a USA normal car & engine. Not an S.
an S has VIN 1180xxxx and engine 408xxxx or 418xxxx.
What is the paint code on the badge?

Ahhhh the sixties... I envision myself one early Saturday morning wearing plaid shorts, black shoes with white socks smoking a cigarette heading to the hardware store to buy a bag of nails.
SWB cars are an acquired taste however once acquired theirs no turning back.

    11830016 has engine 3280098. Also a Normal.

    In 69, the 4th digit being a 3 would be a S model. Like 1193XXXX

I got the same thing from PCNA. "It's an S" they told me, until I told them otherwise. They then sent me an updated COA. I wonder if I could have told them it had all manner of valuable options, like a sport kit, on it and they would have added those as well. It just underlines how little they know at PCNA and how invaluable a site like this is.
