    Distributor 004 question

    Can you help?
I bought this RS 004 distributor and on inspection it has something fitted which is not in my other distributor. In the picture below there is a black 'two-pronged' clip fitted in the upper right (approx the one o'clock) position which seems to restrict the advance mechanism. I'm not saying it looks home made but it is not obviously original. Can anyone say what it is, what it does and why it is fitted?
    Many thanks.

Bigger pic in next post, thanks.

    Regards
    Mike

I don't know what it is either, I'd take out the breaker plate and have a look underneath, maybe that will help you to figure what someone was trying to do.

Thanks for your reply. The dizzy has been apart to try to figure out what's going on and the clip affects the advance. I was just wondering if anyone has seen this before and what the application would/might be.

Bosch put that there, it's standard on the 2,7 distributors.

Okay John, I give, never noticed that, was it only on 2.7 RS, or all 2.7, and what does it DO?

Appreciate any further comment or advance ( no pun intended) on it's purpose. I have now looked at two other 004 distributors and it's not there.

Like this? See how the whole points plate rotates with the vacuum retard? The spring keeps it in place.

    See it on #7?

Now I am confused John, are we talking about the same part here? It looks like you're referring to the ball bearing retained by the stamped steel cover, is that right? By the way great pictorial presentation, how do you do the animation???

I appreciate the time you took to give that excellent illustrated reply. The clip I am trying to ask about is not present in any of the distributors you illustrate. I have done my best to tag the photo with a label.
