    Flywheel Lightening??

I am considering lightening a flywheel for a 2.2S motor for sporty street use. It is from a 2.0N and weighs 13.1#'s. Any suggestions? Not looking to go too radical at the cost of drivability.
    Thanks,

    Hi,

Just in case it helps with weight info, for street use we make these new ones.

If I read you correctly although you are using a 2.2 engine it sounds like you're using a 2.0 flywheel. If that's the case you can remove 3 to 4 lbs and not hurt the driveability. It should all be removed from the outer edge, do not remove any from around the mounting area, all you do is weaken the mounting and it will crack there. Do NOT try to lighten the 2.2 style flat face flywheel, it is cast steel and doesn't take well to lightening, buy a steel one from Alan.

New early 2.0 litre flywheel with induction hardened teeth, lightened and balanced to G2.5.

That looks great. Is it an exact copy of the 906 flywheel? What's the difference in weight compared to a stock one?

    Thanks Ed
Although the flywheel was machined around the circumference and it only yielded a .8# reduction.

An impressive show of machining and balancing. Who did the work?
