Thread: What speedo is this?

    What speedo is this?

    All,

what is this for? According to Brett Johnson's authenticity guide, all long hood speedos were 150mph. This one goes to 160 and is stamped 3/65. Was there anything that would do 160 in '65?? It is the same size as the other 911 speedo I have...

    All input appreciated.

9 series did not have the lines (where it shows around 40 mph).. thats kind of an earlier thing like 356 era stuff. but the top speed is far too high..

are we sure this wasnt something NHS or Palo Alto customized at some time?

    I believe the 904 had a 190 mph speedometer. (280 km/h, that I know)

    356 SC maybe?

edit: no, the 356 SC had a 120 mph tach. However the 356 Carrera GT had a 160 mph one.

The reason I wanted to see a picture of the rear side is that a 356 has a rod coming out the back to reset the tripmeter. A 911 has the cable.

    speedo back

Thank you for all your input. Here is the back. It looks like it had a cable at one point - now just a hole. It does not look like it's been opened up - the bezel is perfectly intact.

I do have another mystery gauge. This is an 8k gauge, but the back says it is for a 4 cylinder..... I thought all 912s had a 7k tach.

The outside diameter is similar to my other 911 tach.

    Anyone??

There is an obscure 912S model. They did little to the engine, except shorten the warranty and raised the red line by 1000 RPM. Most (if not all) of these cars (Targas) found their way to Dutch Police (Polite??) service.

912 KM speedos went to 200KPH. Interesting to see that this speedo is marked between 50 and 60 KPH (approximately the town speed limit in many European countries).

Sorry for the poor quality photo.
