    Looking for some commiseration :(

2012 has not been great so far. First I learned recently that my entire department was being outsourced. Crap...But hey, I had this 1972 911T in the shop getting a rebuilt engine and tranny, and at least going to job interviews was gonna be nice...

Guess what: the car was finished today at 5:15 PM, they took it for a final test drive to check for anything amiss.... Some klutz rear ended the car at a red light at 5:20.Presumably low speed...

So far, it would appear that this is light damage. I haven't seen it, those were mailed to me by the mechanic. Engine lid is bent and the closing panel (whatever you call that, with the stickers on it) has a dent in it too... They said they'd be shocked if there were any frame issues, but since the klutz was insured, all will be checked carefully regardless...

The sucky part ? Aside from the fact I was gonna get the car back *tonight* after a 7 months wait, is that the value of this car - to me anyway - was that it was really original. Shitty original crazed paint and all... Now it's gonna have nicer paint back there, which kinda forces my hand long term towards a full paint job.

The silver lining? Hmmm.... The shut panel under the lid had peeling paint. It'll get fresh paint. That's pretty much it... Oh, and I wasn't driving the car so I am not involved in any way shape or form financially, and none got hurt. The mechanic owns a paint shop, he might be able to stretch the insurance money to do more for me, since he's feeling sorry and not trying to make a buck on the bodywork...

Oh, and as bad things come in 3s, my mother in law already visited, so I think I'm good now...

I'm with reza, see what can be messages out, and seek a replacement engine lid that you can swap on in the meantime.

What's the blue hose about? Never seen one in blue like that. Have them throw in a black coil and black hose on that deal.

Know your pain, just not all at the same time which really sux. My 72 T Targa was backed into while parked by a hit and run driver leaving a serious crease in the reat deck lid. Never found out who the perp was. The paint was original as well. Like yours, it was a bad day indeed.

I don't know and I agree with you. It looks "rice" for lack of a better word. It's not staying. I had not even seen the car complete before this happened so I guess they had that hose lying around or something. They can fix that while it sits at the body shop :-(

    Greg D,
    What a drag.
If this were me, I think I'd consider getting a replacement deck lid, and put the original on my garage wall.
    Better luck in the future.

Get it repaired (lid only) then go on a search for an original paint lid and replace it.

Ahhhh the sixties... I envision myself one early Saturday morning wearing plaid shorts, black shoes with white socks smoking a cigarette heading to the hardware store to buy a bag of nails.
