I put one of these in my early car, and I'm entirely pleased; they also have a nice hidden Ipod interface.

Agreed... installed one of these speakers in our '68T and the sound from the restored/iPod adapted original Blaupunkt is very good.

Thanks for the Pic. That answers alot of questions. I assumed they attached from under the dash.

How do the iTunes adapters work?

Crappy, 39 year old, mono, audio system is getting expensive.
    Head unit - $200
    faceplate - $120
    Speaker - $100

$50 or make your own for $5. Ipod adapter plugs into the DIN jack on the back of the radio that was intended for an add on tape deck. That jack currently has a white cap in it that has two pins which bridge the tuner output to the amplifier input (4 pins if stereo). The ipod adapter connects to a 1/8" phono jack. Your ipod/mp3 connects to this jack with a 1/8" male to male jumper (from the earphone jack). When you plug in the jumper it disconnects the tuner from the amp and plays the ipod directly into the amp. When you unplug it reconnects the tuner. Pretty slick and no cross talk from the tuner. Make sure you get one for a mono radio if that's what you have. Mono uses a 6 pin DIN, stereo a 7 pin.

If you get the speaker setup from Woody's make sure you tell them its going to be used mono so they get the impedence right.

I just got two 4" round speakers from the local radio store. I had to slightly enlarge the hole at both ends - less than .25". Yeah the dash top is no longer "stock." But I'm not going to worry too much about this modification. I realize the stereo effect is somewhat meaningless with the speakers so close. But, it was so easy and fits so nicely. That said, I do like how the 4x6 speaker fits above.

Is the speaker cover glued on there? Was driving home yeaterday and gave a half hearted attempt to get it off and it did not budge at all.

Mine was held by 4 friction fit pins in the corners. Pry up gently trying to keep it level so the pins don't bind. Its possible these could have speednuts on the backside accessible from the trunk but that would be mean.

Where did they get the replacement cone? I have looked, without success. A friend who works in a speaker factory couldn't help, either.
