    Painting Coils

I'm getting ready to paint a MSD coil for my 68 S and I was wondering what other people have used. Finish etc. Thanks.

I'm about to use some HiTemp Rustoleum with the appropriate primer. Worked well on my fan and shroud.

I've used Krylon Semi-Flat Black over Krylon Black Primer, then worked the finish after a day with polishing compound.

specracer - Would love to see some pics posted after you paint.

Chuck - Thanks. Would the final finish look like satin finish? ie a bit shiny-er than sem-flat?

It's not glossy and it's not flat-- sorta satin color.

Bosch used pretty thin paint on these

A well known member of the 356 community (who has now passed on), showed me how he used "barbecue black" and then worked the paint down to a satin finish...

There are actual satin finish paints out there. Try SEM Trim Black from an auto body shop supply. Also, I think that Wurth made a satin black at one time. There used to be a satin black by Masury that perfectly matched the black paint that Porsche used on the engine bay, etc., but I don't think it's available anymore. I still have some, and it smells very polluting.
