    Notice how high the steering rack is mounted in a 917...

    A hairline crack was discovered in the tubing (bear metal area).

    Note the air stem used to pressurize the tubing, this was a way to monitor for stress cracks in the frame.

    The 917 frame tubing was also used to carry oil, weight savings among other things...
