Great Show and nice to see Alain de Cadenet's new series on Velocity.
Velocity Channel kinda reminds me of the long lost Speedvision channel
which got me hooked with the 911 to begin with
I wonder if the old speedvison crew has a hand in the the velocity channel
What is it about?

That was / is really delightful, wasn't it. I recorded it and shall watch it over and over........... I even bought a brand-new large, flat panel LED TV just in anticipation of this program and can tell you sincerely that it exceeded my expectations on every level. The images are vivid, sharp, the colors are sensational, the commentary is knowledgeable, informed, and the program flows beautifully. I plan on recording every episode of this show ( as I did Alain's "Victory by Design" Series, which I still review from time to time ) for future viewings.
The first episode of the Series concentrated on the Lancia / Ferrari D50, from a historic standpoint, a segment on Jim Stokes, the chap whose shop in England created the 6 tool-room recreations ( since Enzo ordered all the original race cars destroyed after they had outlived their competitive usefulness, and no originals survived ). The same shop also has re-created the only '61 "Sharknose" 156 Ferrari in existence since all the originals met the same fate as the D50s, and is briefly featured. With the exception of a few historic film clips, the entire one-hour program takes place at last year's Goodwood Revival meeting with Alain driving the car. Doug Nye is also featured and adds valuable historical perspective.
The next episode will cover vintage British motorcycles and the Spitfire WW II fighter, using Alain de Cadenet's personal Spitfire which he bought and had restored in the '90s.
Max. to answer your question directly, the show is about Vintage racing at its authentic, old-school European finest, not at all like that total crap program Speed Channel pawned off on us after RR IV. If you found any part of of that abomination enjoyable, you probably won't appreciate "Renaissance Man". It features a slower, in-depth & far more informative and illustrative format for the real lovers of authentic historic / vintage racing............by the way, the program airs on the Velocity Channel, in normal and HD.

That was good. I hadn't heard before that it was de Cadenet who discovered the engines in the Ferrari scrap pile, thank goodness they were saved. The D50 is one of my all time favorite race cars, the 1958 Pinewood Derby car that my dad and I (mostly my dad ) made was modeled on the D50. Finished third in the citywide championship race. I had always longed to see one "in the flesh" and thanks Miles Collier, I finally got to see the one from his collection at Lime Rock in '10 - what a sound.
And any program that has Doug Nye doing commentary is one that I will watch. Glad to see de Cadenet back on TV.

John and Jim :
I heartily commend you both for an absolutely accurate description of Renaissance Man.
I WAS TOTALLY blown away by the extreme level of thorough coverage.
Pure Pleasure. It will nearly bring tears to your eyes and a lump in your throat ........

I got that on DVD last year, from the Motorsport Collector, around the time of Rennsport.
I have Victory by Design on DVD, too. Porsche, Ferrari, Lotus, Jaguar.

Rennaissance Man was fantastic....I am really looking forward to more episodes.
The Killer Years was tough to watch...well done but what a dark period for the sport.
Still my favorite de Cadenet moment-

Arrrgh! I'm so pissed. I totally forgot about this show. If I scream really loud over here in Off Topic, you think I'll disturb the people over in the other areas of the forum?
Oh well. Hope they repeat the shows
