    do i / don't i - behr fender coolers repos

With my day job taking up way to much time i've had to slow on the st parts but as i needed to work with china for product manufacture for my day job i put the feelers out for reproducing the behr fender coolers rhs/lhs for ST - RSR set ups . What i have found is that yes it is possible to make exact copies of these and yes easy to be rhs and lhs versions. the cost to make them is low ......
BUT the set up cost is not cheap and most likely i need to go to china to set this up , is there enough interest in making these to warrant such a cost and time out lay ( next year not this year)...? what do you think

Freisinger / Germany charges 1800 Euros now what is about 2350 USD per unit of the 2.0 / 2.2 S oil cooler! thats 4700 USD for the set and he has only the right one, so labour cost and risk to damge one for welding the left side brackets is another theme!
    I need 2 sets!

    coolers

The factory 1973 RSR does not use those coolers on either side. The engine cooler is a big one in the nose, and the transmission cooler is a serpentine in the drivers front fender.

I'm sure the Chinese are capable of making a good quality product. BUT with a critical part like an oil cooler, I wonder if people are more concerned with something that LOOKS right, but is made in China, or if they would accept something that looks almost right, but uses a proven, good quality modern cooler that is adapted for the job.

Have you spoken to these people? http://www.pwr.com.au/#/view=home/

    cheers

hi jeff , you are right there which is part of dealing with china made goods hands on. From experience with product manufacture and supply from china if you don't inspect , inspect, inspect everything they will try it on . i have been having pumps made and shipped for 13 years direct , so far i have changed suppliers 4 times as at the start you get a fantastic product , then not so good , and then a bit less ... as they try to make more money by installing lesser quality internals without telling you.
IF i look at doing this Every unit will be checked , tested before sale trust me . when it's for a porsche it's to critical to be perfect rather than probably ok .

update; Taking on board the issue with China products i had a chat with a alli welding guru / fabricator over here in nz . i advised what we are trying to achieve and he is quite upbeat about how to proceed. the core is easy , the top and lower tank a bit harder . i think the best we can do is use ridged ali for the look , and match the outline shape as per original plus make and weld in the correct connectors .as such so far so good to be new zealand made.

Just an FYI- I once bought a Chinese copy of the engine oil cooler. When I recieved it, sand came out of it when I took it out of the box.... I returned it and never used it.
    Thanks,
