    Knee pad opinions

My 72T came with the following A/C dash bottom...

During engine rebuild, I decided nix all the A/C related gear (even in perfect shape that stuff doesn't work well enough, IMO, I'd rather save weight and have a cleaner engine bay). I now have to decide what to do with the dash. I want to remove that set of aftermarket vents as they take some knee room, but I don't quite feel like paying Stoddards $1300 for a set of OEM knee pads to fill the gap.

My mechanic mentioned we could modify 993 ones to look the part, but I'm not so sure his and my idea of "matching" are the same. Ever hear of that option? Failing that, sierra Madre has a repro set at just over $450, a substantial savings over OEM. Not that I'm being super cheap but I gotta pay a $13000 rebuild bill and have the recently rear-end damage repaired, so savings matter... Anyone know how those look in person ? It's not exactly an "in your face" part so I am willing to take the chance, unless you guys think they are crap.
    Greg.

get a swb knee pad in good shape for around 100-150. put it in there.. will fit up, will look good and you can delete the ash tray (since the lwb ash tray goes where the knee pad goes). clean look, and affordable.
