Thread: Transmission Serial # ID?

    Transmission Serial # ID?

I have a friend who just picked up a "Genie" Race Car. He was told it has a Porsche transmission. Does this # mean anything to you? KD29739

    Is this possibly a 356 transmission serial # or a 901?

    Thanks for your help.

Digging deep into my memory bank,,,,,I thought KD was a prefix indicating factory rebuild.

I agree that KD indicates a factory rebuild, and the serial # is too short for a 901.

    Dave,

This is a four speed transmission also. Do you know how to tell what model/year # it is? Is there an era that the factory used the letters KD?
    Thanks for your help!

If it's a 5 digit Porsche transmission and it has swing axles (instead of axle shafts), than most likely it's a 356 transmission approx. 1959. 1959 might be a single front mount nose piece (as opposed to dual mount which is more common).

    Just my $.02
