New 911 (death of the 911?)

I did a good amount of reading on the new 991 and looked at the exterior and interior at many different angles, and while it is a beautiful car, I think you may need a suit and tie to drive it. Gone is that light weight sporty look, that feeling of "throw me around" and the grass roots car we all love. The gerenerations before it moved away from the traditional 911, but not like this. It looks like a 2 door Panamera and does not seem to be geared for the enthusiast, but more the driver that wants to be more formal. What a bummer? Well, I think the oldd 911 cars will move up in value ever more now.

Anyone have a point of view on this?

I agree it is a great looking car. It is more of a Grand Touring car now than a "Sports Car". However, the stock 991 is faster than the 997 GT3 and RS, so that says something. The seats are fantastic. I can't wait to see the AeroKit on one.
    Thanks,

The same thing that happened to the Ford Thunderbird is happening to the 911. It took longer but now the 911 is like driving a Buick --a big lumbering land yacht. If you drive a early 911 up aong side a 997, the 997 looks twice as big. The 911 is a car designed by committy, not Butzy and a few of his friends. Chris

    two things.

    1) I agree

    2) but at the same token, isnt this what is said every time a new car, or new generation of a model comes out? What did the 356 owners say about the 911/12? What did the 911 owners say about the 924? What about when the 928 or 944 came out? How about the coxster? and dont forget the 996, and the Cayenne.. the water cooler and the suv.. imho this is just our time to poo poo a new model for a change. as one pointed out, the performance is up there...

but i agree. they are getting softer. I read an article last week where engineers are saying there will not be a manual porsche after 2020.. now that crushes me...

The wheelbase is so much longer and Porsche disguises it well with the design. They should not have combined the 991 with other models in look or shared parts. The 911 should stand alone from the rest of the lineup. I am sure it handles and drive fabulously and is very comfortable, but it is no longer a small sports car and with this generation is becomes very apparent.

Funny, that's just what I thought when they introduced the LWB 911.

The 991 lighter than a current VW Golf (!) and the Nürburgring time for the C2S speaks for itself.
I’m very excited for the upcoming triple-Turbo and GT3 versions. Losing the manual for the PDK won’t make enthusiasts happy, but it’s clearly the superior technology.
