    Today I discovered a cool connection with my '65 car's 1st owner.......

    RHD Australian 901 Trivia.

Today I discovered a connection with my car's 1st owner and one of Australia's finest wines, Henschke Mt Edelstone.

This morning I saw a client and took the 901, a sunny & cool autumn morning.

We chatted about the car out the front of his stately home and when I was about to leave he passed over a '94 Henscke Mt Edelstone with the words "thanks, & enjoy." I sure will, one of the finest wines from one of our finest producers from a very fine year.

Back in the office I read the back label & imagine my suprise when I read the first line of the label copy:

"In 1920 Ronald Angas planted Shiraz vines on sandy loam soil on the eastern slopes of Mount Edelstone high in the Barossa Ranges near Kyneton."

The Angas family were granted the entire Barossa Valley in the formative days of our colony's settlement; this was one of their patches.

So, the first owner of my car planted the vines that grew the fruit that this very bottle of wine is made from. And my transport to the meeting was his 901.

    See:

    http://www.collingrovehomestead.com.au/

A nice coincidence for me, a wine head, and a new piece of info I'd not known before about my car's first owner.

A man of taste on many levels, for sure.

    Cheers

    SCK

Thanks, I thought so too & worth sharing.

Also cool is that The Sporting Car Club of SA built the Collingrove Hillclimb track on his land, about 1000m from his Barossa homestead, "Collingrove", which he donated for the purpose.

Here are some pics I recently found (thanks to the SCCSA site) of our Porsche distributor, Alan Hamiton, hillclimbing his 906 at the track in '67. I'm told Alan stayed at the Collingrove homestead just down the road when competing at Collingrove. Probably spannered the 901 whilst there, too.

    Cheers

SCK, if my Porsche sickness really kicks into high gear, I want a '65 just like yours - color and everything. Love it.

What a way to start the day, a drive in the Barossa Hills.

The Henschke is such a thoughtful gift !!

    Cheers Lars,

It's 5710, Stone Grey, a '57 only special colour. Green interior, & interestingly I have a picture of his '63 B Super that was white with green inside, too.

    Cheers

    Hey Clyde,

Keyneton, about 3 km down the road from this pic, is about as 'small country town' as you can get, surrounded by deserted, wide & well maintained sweeping drivers roads, cellar doors and vineyards. The entrance to Henschke on the left is about as iconic an Australian wine location as one could imagine, as it is once inside.

Come to think of it, I can see a typ901 driving tour there one day.......
