    Stock eye bolts...coated or uncoated?

Can I please get confirmation on the factory supplied eye bolts and first year appearance of the coated versions? I personally pulled the uncoated versions from a '68 912 but have seen the coated versions on '68 as well. Was this a mid-year transition? Please and thanks!

bob, the first eye bolts group is the one and only original type for swb 911 , as you can see from pet manuals
the second is aftermarket ( i find some 911 here in italy with those bolts, but there is no documentation evidence that they are porsche original spare parts)

    Bob,

Every car I have seen with factory belts has the black ovals. You usually see the silver circles in connection with Hickock or other dealer installed belts.

    Bob,

my feb built 68 has the circular kind (shorter, rounder), and not the oblong ones. my car came with original carpet and seatbelts so i have no reason to doubt this is original.

as you are very well aware, 68 is VERY different from every other SWB. Many people do not realize the front end (cross member and control arms) are different from previous years too.

The factory would use what ever parts they had available.. so if it was an early build, you might have the earlier type. I think i would continue your survey a bit longer to get more consensus, but at the same time i would think about when my build date was too, and let that help you decide.

Which kind did you have when you got the car? do you know any build dates or do you have any date stamp parts (steel wheels, gauges etc)? 99% of mine are stamped 2/68 including the original oil cooler.....

As noted in my reply on 912 Registry, my '68 has the round uncoated type. US spec car delivered at the factory in April '68.

My '66 912 has the black oval ones. My '68 911 has the round uncoated. Both have the same style/make three point belt. PET lists the oval as part #644.803.122.00 which I think is a carry-over part from 356's.

Just found these shots I took from a Canepa visit a couple years ago. Both are very unique 68s and formerly owned by Ahearn. Beautiful cars.
