    Windshields and insurance

    Round table discussion:
Say I have my car insured with Haggerty or one of the other niche collector car companies and I have a windshield claim. If I had an original German made Sigla in the car are they responsible for replacing with like-kind quality? The optical quality of the aftermarket windshields is questionable at best not to mention esthetics.
This also leads to another question: How crazy are concours guys getting with windshields? If it doesn't say: MADE IN WEST GERMANY is there a knock?
As Chuck said in another post, windshields are a consumable for most who use their cars on a regular basis. This discussion is for those who show their cars.

    Thanks in advance for opinions.

I had the windshield replaced due to a crack which occurred while out on a drive one day, probably an old rock chip that gave way. I had it replaced and then it occurred to me that it might be covered by my insurance (Hagerty). I called them, sent them photos of the old windshield (which I saved) and they sent me a check for the cost of new OEM glass and a window seal, plus labor to replace. I'll let someone else speak to the craziness of concours guys....

Frank, in Parade judging you'll likely get dinged a tenth of a point for non Sigla or Sekurit windshields. Since I was dinged for this myself I wasn't happy about it, but I realize that when the winner comes down to a tenth of a point you have to separate them somehow, and if the other guy has an O.E.M. windshield then he deserves the win. That's why we do the judging! I've also heard that for enough money you can have someone copy an original logo and etch it on. That will be an expensive tenth of a point, and a level of game I can't play in.
