    Patrick C. Paternie RIP

    All,

Just received word a little while ago that writer (and great early 911 guy) Patrick Paternie succumbed to a heart attack yesterday: Saturday, 10 March.

He was out at Willow Springs - running his green '68 SWB coupe. He and I had many, fun dices out there, Fontana, and Buttonwillow in our pretty-evenly matched 2.0 liter race cars

Some of you may recall Pat as the author of several books on Porsche: including "The Little Red Book" among others. Pat was a frequent contributor to the print pages of our publication; "PML -The Market Letter For Porsche Automobiles" for many, many years. He was a lotta fun to work with and be around. He always had a smile, and a cool joke or two. While this is obviously sad news -we can take some comfort in knowing that he passed doing what he loved the most: driving his early 911 hard - the way it spozed to be driven...

    Blue Skies, Pat!

I didn't have the pleasure and honor of meeting Patrick but certainly benefitted from his knowledge. RIP Pat.

I met Patrick Paternie through a mutual friend; a real good guy. We all have to go some time, and it sounds like he got to die happy. I wish his family well.

I was at Willow Springs yesterday and had several enjoyable conversations with Pat throughout the day as he showed me his green ‘68 SWB. *I wished him well as he went out for his race where he enjoyed a spirited duel with another driver in a BMW 2002. At the end of the race he drove back to his spot in the paddock and but never made it out of the car. Paramedics came within minutes and tried to revive him but to no avail. He was then rushed to a nearby hospital. All of us who had spent time with him throughout the day were shocked and saddened. My condolences go out to Pat’s wife and family. *

So sad. Like Ed said, too many are leaving us. I spent time with Pat over 20 years ago during the Copperstate 1000 vintage rally. He was there doing a story for Excellence and I was driving in the event. We had many great conversations about Porsches and he wrote some nice things about me and my car in the story. At least we all share a passion and enjoy these great cars together. I doubt if Pat had a Bucket List and I think that's the best way to live life. What a great and talented guy.

Pat and his son Patrick really enjoyed vintage racing together and I have to believe that the last few years were some of their most treasured.
May God give the family comfort and peace during this tough time.

    Thom, thanks for posting this.
