    1968 horns

My '68 has only one horn and I think it is the high one, as it goes "meep meep" like Herbie the Love Bug. Not that that's a bad thing (I have a '64 Bug with the "meep meep" horn) but I'd like my 911 to sound like it originally did. I see the wiring on both sides is there. So, my questions are

    1. What did the original horns look like?
    2. What mhz were the original horns?
    3. What did the brackets look like?
    4. Where can I buy them?

    Thanks

These were listed ad 1968 horns a little while back.
I think they are what you want.

My '68 has one of the plastic ones from the first thread Kent listed and one kinda like the one in the second thead. Car was basically original when I got it, but one or more may have been changed by a PO.

Based on John having one of each type it looks like we need someone to act as te tie breaker.

I concur with John - two different types. One sort of snail shell shaped and one round and flat with no grill. I may have a left over mounting bracket that was yellow cad plated. The flat with no grill style horns are often non0functional but it's a simple solder fix. I posted about it a long time ago so there should be a pic of my "after" restoration.

Consensus is one snail and one flatty, OK. Anyone know which one was the high and which one was low?

Bob, can you post a pic of the mounting bracket? I may have one in my stash. I will look for your pics, although a lot of old stuff was lost when they upgraded the bullitin board.

Looks like high is snail, low if flatty. Of course I could be wrong, it has been a long day of people puking on me and my rig, not getting a break for lunch until 2pm and then having to wolf it fast and I am very tired. Not to mention the airhorn that decided to suddenly malfunction in the second ambulance I was in causing total chaos to traffic. After reading EKG strips all day my eyes are tired. Oh well, another 24 shift tomorrow!

Air goes in and out, blood goes round and round, any variation of this is a bad thing.

Mike, the horn situation is kind of complicated, according to PET there were different pitches (as you know) for the snail type, and by model. There are different pitches for the flat type also, but one is specifically listed for U.S.A. So there also seem to be different horns for different markets. However no matter which type only one is listed, leading me to agree that you would likely have one of each.

Anyone have experience with these? Cheeeeap, and Hella. Just not correct, they're modern horns.
