Ferdinand Alexander Porsche died
Stuttgart. The Dr. ing h.c. F. Porsche AG, Stuttgart, mourns Professor Ferdinand Alexander Porsche. Honorary President of the Supervisory Board of Porsche AG died in Salzburg at the age of 76 on the 5th April 2012. Matthias Müller, CEO of Porsche AG, pays tribute to the merits of Ferdinand Alexander Porsche to the sports car manufacturer: "We mourn the death of Ferdinand Alexander Porsche." As creator of the Porsche 911 he founded a design culture in our company, that characterizes our sports car until today. "His philosophy of good design is a legacy that we will hold in the future in honor for us."
Ferdinand Alexander Porsche was born on 11 December 1935 in Stuttgart as the eldest son of Dorothea and ferry Porsche. His childhood was already dominated by automobiles, he spent much time in the construction areas and development workshops of the grandfather of Ferdinand Porsche. in 1943 the family together with the company Porsche moved to Austria, where he went to school in Zell am see. After returning to Stuttgart in 1950, he attended the free Waldorf School. After school, he enrolled at the prestigious Hochschule für Gestaltung in Ulm, Germany.
1958 Porsche KG entered f.a. Porsche, as he was called by his colleagues, the Design Bureau of the former Dr. ing h.c. F.. He demonstrated his great creative talent there soon, as he modelled the first model of a successor to the 356 series made. 1962 he took over the directorship of the Porsche Design Studio and created a year out with the Porsche 901 (or 911) worldwide sensation. With the Porsche 911, f.a. Porsche created a sports car icon, whose as timeless as classic Form lives on to this day in the meanwhile seventh Elfer generation. In addition to the cars Porsche f.a. but also dealt with the design of the cars of the 1960s. His most famous designs 1 race cars include type 804 or the Porsche amongst the formula 904 Carrera GTS, which today is considered one of the most beautiful car ever.
In the course of conversion of Porsche KG into a joint stock company in the year 1971-72, Ferdinand Alexander Porsche retired along with all other family members from the operations of the company. in 1972 he founded the "Porsche Design Studio" in Stuttgart, whose based in 1974 was moved to Zell am see in Austria. In the following decades, he designed numerous classic men's accessories such as watches, glasses and writing instruments that became known worldwide under the "Porsche Design" brand. At the same time he designed "Design by F. A. Porsche" with his team under the brand a wide range of industrial products, home appliances and household goods for well-known customers. F.a. Porsche enjoyed as a designer the reputation of being a Funktionalist. A strict and clear design line is typical of all product designs, resulting in his Design Studio to this day. "Design must be functional, and the functionality must be visually implemented in aesthetics, without gags, that only need to be explained," was the credo for his creative work. F.a. Porsche: "A formal, coherent product needs no embellishment, it should be increased by the pure form." The shape should present itself intelligible and not distract from the product and its function. "Good design is to be honest," was his conviction.
For his work as a designer, as well as for individual designs Ferdinand Alexander Porsche was awarded numerous honours and awards. So that honored him "Comité international de promotion et de prestige" in 1968 for the superior aesthetic design of the Porsche 911, during it the industry forum Design Hannover (iF) 1992 the "winner of the year" chose to. The Austrian Federal President 1999 awarded him the title of professors.
Ferdinand Alexander Porsche remained all his life closely associated as a shareholder and Supervisory Board of Porsche AG. So, he accompanied the design of the Porsche sports car over many decades after retiring from business operations and were constantly pioneering impulses of the brand. This applies in particular also to the for Porsche difficult period at the beginning of the 1990s. From 1990 to 1993 f.a. Porsche as Chairman of the Board of the company, and had thus a large proportion of the economic turnaround of Porsche AG. In 2005, he handed his seat on the Supervisory Board to his son Ferdinand Oliver and assumed the Honorary Chairman of the Supervisory Board.
Ferdinand Alexander Porsche is buried in the closest family circle in the family plot at the Schüttgut in Zell am see. An official memorial service will take place at a later date in Stuttgart.

Only 28 when he created the 901. Clearly he had some advantages, but time has proven that his design concept and its execution was truly inspired.
With all the government regulation and the difficulty and cost of developing and marketing an automobile, there will never be a story like the one that Porsche family created.
Maybe that magic entrepreneurial potion evaporated in 1971.
