Thread: What does "shipped" mean to you?....added charges?

What does "shipped" mean to you?....added charges?

So, this really bugged me today. What is your take?

I guy posts some small interior parts for sale. The posting says "$30 shipped" and "$48 shipped" for these two parts. I tell the guy I'll take them, and ask for his paypal address so I can send him the money.

He responds back, that he needs to know if he'll be shipping to a residence or a business, because a residence might cost more....and that he needs me to add 3.78% for the paypal fee.

I think that's total BS. He said "shipped".... To me, "shipped" means that's the total price to get the item to my door...done deal.
Paypal is a common way to pay....if the fee was going to bother the seller, then he should add a buck or two to his price to cover that...or he should say, "plus paypal fees".....
And if a seller says "shipped", then he shouldn't come back and say shipping to a residence will cost extra...

In the end...3.78% of $78 is just $2.95, but it's the principal...right? "shipped" is "shipped"!! There shouldn't be undisclosed stipulations...right? You with me or against me on this?

Pretty straight forward to me shipped means anywhere in the world for stated price. It does cost more to deliver UPS & FedEx to a residence but it should be already added into the shipped price stated. USPS is same for business or residence so added charge. Dave I am with you on this one.

Shipped means shipped. Calculate your minimum and qualify where you'll send or separate the two...

If i say shipped, i add in 3% for paypal and figure that into my price.

often times i do not inlcude shipping unless its a small item (ie fits in a $5 flat rate box), and lately i have been going towards an anti-pay pal approach -either check, money order, or pp as a gift. i dont want to get stuck with fees and i dont want to hit you with fees either. most people are cool and appreciate it.

I'd be cool paying however the guy however he wanted to be paid. But my point is, that you shouldn't say "shipped" if you're shipping has qualifiers about a residence, and you are planning to add paypal fees for the buyer to pay. Just be up front and say, "plus paypal" fees.
It's dishonest not to disclose the costs you expect the buyer to pay.. The guy who posted the items is an experienced seller, and sells a lot of parts....probably his side-business.

Yup. Shipped means the total cost to you. If the seller wants you to cover paypal fees, then it should be stated. I wouldn't complete your transaction until you both clear it up.

As a long-time internet seller, I get very specific as to what form of payment I'll accept, where I'll ship to. Example: $25 shipped. Check, Postal Money Order, or Paypal +3%, or Paypal Gift option. CONUS only. If paying by check, I will hold item until funds clear.

Feel free to copy this line.

When I post items for sale, shipped means shipped. Paypal, check, whatever, when I have the money you get the item delivered to your door for the stated cost. I list prices for US and ROW in the ad. Pay me cash and I make a little more than I do with Paypal, but I like the convenience of Paypal for both me as the seller and for the buyer as well.

I always feel that any contact after an agreement is reached asking for more money is like a shakedown, and always leaves a bad taste in the mouth of the buyer.

When I say shipped it means you give me X much money and the parts arrive at your door via UPS ground insured for X amount.

    One price fits all.

You're right - shipped is sent to you for the set price, not add a 3.78% charge and then sent to you. I'd be upset too. I'd probably cancel the deal over it, but then again I do stuff like that.
