    SWB Front Fuel Pump Conversion

I am converting a SWB to an MFI motor and attempting to install the electric pump in the steering rack area. It looks like the steering damper is going to be in the way of
the pump. And it also looks like if the steering rack cover is left off, everything will fit. For safety reasons I would rather not do this.
Has anyone mounted a pump like this? I would like to follow the factory mount and not put the pump in a different location. Would a later steering rack work?
    Thanks,
    50/50

Here are some pictures of a electric pump. It's of someone else's car. I have one of these pumps on my SWB car. Sorry but I didn't shoot pictures of that install.

Thanks for the pictures! Your install completely skirts the steering rack. Was your mount a factory part or did you make it up?

I mounted a rotary Bosch pump using the original location for carb'Name: L1030322.jpg

Size: 78.5 KBed Ts in '70-'71. I also used the factory bracket and rubber buffers I found at EASY. This was an upgrade for my '69T which had a Hardi mounted in the engine compartment. The Hardis failed and vapor locked. Injected '69 cars, Es and Ss, had the pump up front mounted with a wierd cast aluminum bracket mounted to the cross member.....it's a funky ugly piece so I went with the '70 factory solution. Here's a photo of the installation.[ATTACH=CONFIG]213754

This isn't my car. These pictures gave me ideas how to approach mine. Mine like yours is a SWB. I can't remember if this car is SWB or LWB. As mine is EFI we plumbed a return line also. Next time I get my car on a rack I'll shoot pictures. If you are working on your car now my pictures might come too late. Here is the tool he used to attach the pump with.

I'm afraid you're beating your head against a wall,,,,,the factory never mounted a front pump on the early cars with the steering damper! The car that cympski has pictured has an SC steering rack support, different shape than yours. Yours is round like Marks.

I believe if you source a fuel pump mount for a 69E/S it bolts to/clamps around the front cross-member.

Otherwise, you're going to have to get inventive...

Indeed, the '69 injected cars had a clumsy cast aluminum clamping device that held the fuel pump. As I mentioned '69Ts had a Hardi pump in the engine compartment. The '70-'71 Ts had a Bosch rotary mounted up front using a stamped steel "saddle" like bracket mounted to the pan via two double studded rubber buffers. The pump was held in the saddle by a hose clamp. I went with that as it was just tidier. Finding the pieces now could be a challange
