    914-6 Originality question

I've been sleuthing a few parts needed to bring my 1970 914-6 closer to where I'd like it to be. One of the things I noticed when I bought the car was the missing black plastic covers for the drain vents above the door latches on the rear quarter panels. NBD - I figured they'd be relatively easy to come by.

I called a guy today looking for another part and asked if by chance, he had any. He said he did, but mentioned that the early cars (I think he said pre-73 ??) did not use those covers. They just had the open hole and without would be more correct from an originality standpoint. Really?? My other 1970 -6 had those covers and I think the bare hole looks, um, like somebody forgot to put them back after a crappy repaint, to put it delicately.

Said guy advertises in Pano and I'm sure he's forgotten more about these cars than I ever knew, but that seems really strange to me. I ordered them because I think they definitely improve the look, but am curious what this hallowed group knows about this little detail. Thanks.

Do you have access to a parts book or PET? that will certainly indicate when they were used. If not I can look for you.

    MR-

I agree with your guy, my 71' 914-6 which I've had since 2/72 (original owner) does not have the covers. On that note I agree with you that it looks like some-one forgot them. (maybe they did?) I would say go ahead and install them, it's your opinion and point of view that counts the most.

    Early cars-no vent covers.

They look better with the covers, but never came that way...could consider it an factory part upgrade I guess!

Thanks Ed for offering to check. I currently don't have access to a parts book or PET. I'll try to get more details, as I can.

Also, thanks much to the rest of you who provided feedback. Much appreciated.

Raj: I have a 1970. Don't know if that helps you or not. If so, I will take a pic for you when I get it back from the shop.
