Help removing a 68 rear view mirror???

Does anybody know how to remove a 68 rearview mirror? There are no visible fasteners.

Also a possible source for a new one, as you can see this one is pitted badly.

    Thanks

Stick your most slim flathead screwdriver on the side of the base and gently use your open palm as a hammer. Get ready to catch mirror. It's spring loaded.

Here's what you're stuggling against, two pins and a spring. Grab hold of the stem and snatch it towards you, it'll come off.

Hi Larry, in 68 they used a 1 year only mirror. We have chromed plenty in the past. In fact 2 last week. Not 100% original but they are much better than how they started.

The Mercedes SL's used virtually the same mirror. There are more of those around than from Porsche. I believe the US required a matte finish so as not to reflect back and possibly distract the driver.

    Hi,

We personally do not re-chrome here but use a local business whom we know very well. We do prepair though and polish. We do also have our own chromate tanks set up for Dow 7, Dow 9 (soon), plus Zinc etc.

    Thanks
