I've done this on my 67, sure wouldn't use the factory lap belts!

Amen to that, Ed... some prefer 3-point fixed belts but you may prefer inertia. Plenty of options for every budget.

On a somewhat related subject, are there any 3 point inertia belts that can be retrofitted to the rear of a 71 model? Anyone had any experience with this? I have been told 944 belts may work, but I was also wondering whether Carrera inertia belts may be more appropriate. I believe it all depends on the angle of the parcel shelf.

Any thoughts/experiences appreciated.

A 71 already has the mounting point for factory retractors, why not use them?

I have a 69 which came with the fixed 3 point belts. I've seen pictures of other 69s with inertia reel belts. Right now I'm running a roll hoop with harnesses, but want to get rid of that since there's no track here anymore, and I'd like to be able to take my kids in the back seat. So I need a full meal deal - front 3 point inertia belts and I think for the rear for the kids, I'll put in 4 point belts since there's no real mounts for 3 points?

Last year I retired the use of 3" racing belts and returned to period seat belts. These three point are rewebed with fresh belting and refurbished hardware. The race mounts installed on the floor just behind the front seats are also a good mount location for the stock belts. The belts tuck under the carpet so the mount bolts don't call attention to themselves.

These are slide adjust aviation style latches and non retracting - so are adjusted to a snug fit on each use. Yes, you have to unlatch to reach the glove box or wing window (just as the racing belts, used over 27 years) and vastly more comfortable in a street car.

The rear sidewall belt mounts on both sides are surprisingly well placed.

Bob, I'd love to see more details of your setup. This is pretty much what I've been thinking about doing, but not sure how to put it all together. How are your lower mounting points done? And where can I find that great latch hardware? Thanks.

The rear does indeed have factory mounts for three point belts in the rear, but I don't think retractors in the rear became factory installed until the 80's. I am not sure if the should mount point is in the same location on a 71 as, say, a 1980's Carrera.
I am in Australia and was quoted $265 EACH for USED rear factory retractable belts from a 1980's 911 :-0

Just to be sure here, we are talking about retractors for the driver and passenger seats, not the rear jump seats,,,,correct? Mounting points for driver/passenger retractors started in 70, or maybe even 69, however the U.S. D.O.T. did not approve them for our market until 72. They could be used in R.O.W. applications before that, and are shown in the parts book.
