Blood, Sweat and Beers - The story of MY9110

I have been a long time reader and very occasional poster and thought I would share my story on the forum and document the restoration of my car. Hopefully it will help me get through the times when I think I might be going insane.

I have owned the car ( havent got a name for it yet) for about 2 and a half years and started the restoration about 12 months ago. I am doing as much of the resto as possible myself, its been a dream of mine since I was 13.

It is a RHD 1973E from the UK originally. It was shipped to New Zealand by the second owner who moved out here and brought the car with him. He has sent me some photos of the car in the UK in the '80s and I am still in touch with him. The next owner in NZ was a guy called Stewart MacKenzie. He bought the car in 1994 and had Neil Allport (a famous rally driver here in NZ) turn it into a rally car. It has competed in Rallys in the North Island around that time. Im still looking for more information and pics to help build the history.

When i bought it the car had been stripped of everything but some parts came with it, including the original engine and gearbox so its matching numbers which is nice.

Its a slow process so far sourcing parts and and being in New Zealand has made things harder although we do have a great little group down here called Early911NZ, check out the website, we would love to have more people on there! www.early911nz.org

    Thanks so much for looking

    Andrew

I have been collecting parts over the last 18 months and this is how the car looked before I had to move it to a new house... with no suspension or wheels!

So one of the first jobs I tackled was the suspension and bolts etc. I cleaned all the bolts up on a wire wheel and had them cadium plated. Unfortunately as I didnt strip the car I am missing quite a few so will need to work out what I need to buy.

I also sand blasted the suspension and repainted it in satin black. Ive now purchased new bushes all round so everything will be ready go together

Somebody's gotta say it. The dining room table is very nicely set. Good work.

Nice Andrew! You New Zealanders should print club stickers, I for one would love to have one.

    Cheers,

    Hi Andy,

Great job on your E project so far. From where you began you have made huge improvements. Hang in there.

    Mike,

I was thinking the same thing when I checked out the very nicely done NZ Early 911 site. I think one of those decals would look great on ol' KJ911 (RS 451).

    Nice work!

Looks like things are moving along judging from that first shot of the car. Good thing is you will know every nut and bolt of that car when you are done....and know it was done right.
