    Targa top resto DIY ???

After reading various articles like those on Pelican, I'm debating whether to resto my Targa top myself or to send it out to a pro. Any advice out there?

    Thanks

That's a no brainer, send it to Dan Pechtel at www.carsincnj.com It's very difficult to do correctly. He did mine about 3 years ago and it turned out perfect.

+1 for carsincnj. Dan does a great job, figure $1,000 to $1,200 for full restore. Turnaround is usually a week to 10 days.

Simply putting on a new vinyl skin is not too hard. The factory manual has clear instructions. If you need to rebuild the inner webbing, Autobahn Interiors will sell you everything you need. As for how hard this is, check in with me later - I'm midway through the job. I put the rebuild on hold for other projects. I should get back to it in a month or so.

Whether it's worth it depends on how much you enjoy working on your own car. It's not a quick and easy job, to rebuild the inner webbing. Dan Petchel probably has a jig made up to speed the process. When you get the aluminum panels free, you will see where the factory screwed them into some kind of jig.
