    '73 headlight originality question

I have recently acquired a '73 T. I have many questions as I try to learn about 911's from this era. Most of my experience is from 356's, and that has left me strongly afflicted with originality issues

I know the car (US) came with sealed beams, but who were the likely manufacturers supplying sealed beams in 1973? My car came with one Sylvania and one Wagner. You don't have to have a lot of experience to realize that ain't right.

I have spent hours searching these forums and have not been able to find an answer to this question for this year car.

    Thanks,
    Tom

That's because none of us have sealed beams. I think I drove mine from the dealership straight to buy some Cibie H4's then ordered the Bosh Euro H1's.

I appreciate your answers. I'd still like to hear from someone who can give me the facts I'm looking for.

    Tom,
Did you buy the yellow 73T with thirty something thousand miles from Road Scholars? If so, congratulations!

There are no facts. The purchasing dept bought sealed beams in 1973 for about $1.00 each, they were put in a bin, production grabbed them and hung them on a car. No one cared, no one should care now. I had those cars when they were new and they very well could have 2 different bulbs on the same car. Did you check all the other bulbs in the car, are they all the same mfg.? Does every part on your car have the same day month and year stamped on it, and does this keep you awake at night wondering ?

I have some old headlights in a box of parts that I'm selling as I find the time. If you decide you want a matched pair, I can have a look and see what I have.

    Thanks,
    Jeff

I hate to say it, but even though I can border on insanity when it comes to originality (bolt heads etc), I can't be bothered to care about the sealed beam lights. They are sitting in a box marked "sugar scoops, Porsche". The car lives and drives with a proper set of H4s on it.

Oh, the bulbs on the scoops are Sylvania.

Maybe it's because I've had several 356's, but after those 6 volt h-4's, 12v sealed beams are pretty good. It's also probably why my stock T seems like a Turbo to me.
Answering Mohrgan, yes, it's the, now 38000 mile from Road Scholars. 9113100124.

I remember sylvania. At least that is what we used when replacing them in 73 and they seemed to match. H 1 or any other non sealed beam would immediately get you a ticket in SoCal at the time. So would euro turn lenses for that matter. We had to sell them "for off road use only" same with aux driving and even some fog lights.
Don't know when they stopped inforcing the DOT regulations for the early cars. Prob when Porsche went to H 4.
