I would like to return them what a stock 73 wheel would look like. Does the chroming process prevent resurrecting these wheels?
    I have a pair of 6s and 7s
    Appreciate any and all input

Harvey is thr right person to answer this, but chroming Fuchs is not good for the metalurgy. The alloy becomes more brittle. Stripping the crhome does not reverse the effects of the original chroming.

    +1 on Harvey.

It looks like those are 16's and in 6" and 7" widths they are easy to find and cheap to buy.

It might be better to start with a nice, stock, clean set and then have Harvey work his magic.

+1 to all of the above. If these are 16" wheels, I'd sell them off and look for a better set to resto. From what I recall on my visit out to drop off wheels with Harvey, he can in fact re-heat treat the wheels to get them non-brittle (I may be remembering this wrong though). I'm thinking it's probably not with it for these particular wheels unless you have an attachment to them.

Yes we can fix them....if the corrosion isn't too deep. Tom is right about the metalurgy. After removing the chrome we "reheat-treat" the alloy. It is actually called normalizing, but it is easier understood when described as ferrous metal terms.. It is usually worth at least dechroming the wheels to see what is left. Fornunately, you wheels can be readily replaced. Not like some others that come in for the same process. Most chrome shops will do a poor job dechroming. I have only seen a few shops do a good job and they aren't thrilled to do it again.

I took all the above advice and ultimately sold off the red/chrome wheels and purchased a set of polished wheels.

These are in pretty good condition and will work fine until I decide on the refinish for the stock black wheels

Well done! They look good too. I have a feeling that you've saved yourself a lot of headache.
