    Laguna Seca ALMS Race

I had a great time even though neither Porsche nor BMW won. But the weather was great as was the scenery. My photos can be viewed here:

It was cool. I wish I had driven and parked in the corral - old cars were sadly represented (a 356 and a 912 SWT) before gapping up to an 80s era Carrera. I rode up in a buddy's 997 turbo. Flying Lizard had a pit incident which cost them a real chance at the podium.

Nice pictures, Max. Thanks for posting them. And it's fun to see the track surrounded by green hills. They're always brown when I'm there!

There was a Porsche connection on the top step of the overall podium: the co-driver of the winning Honda P1 car that ran away and hid from the entire field was former Porsche Junior Team prospect, multi-year Porsche ALMS GT2 champ (2000, 2002, and 2003), and RS Spyder driver (development and 2006 LMP2 champion) Lucas Luhr.

Lucas is an old-school Porsche bad-boy at heart; more in the mold of a Jurgen Barth than of a Tom Kristensen, he never seemed to fit-in with Dr. Ullrich's regimen when he was picked up by Audi Sport. Luhr and Marco Werner dominated the ALMS with their R10 TDI in 2008, but Ullrich benched him after his crash at Le Mans in 2009. It's good to see that he's found such a fine fit with team principal Greg Pickett and co-driver Klaus Graf in the Muscle Milk Honda prototype.

I remember him and Sascha Maassen in the RS Spyders. And being co-champs in the 996 GT3R with Peterson-White Lightning. Where Pat Long made his name with Bergmeister, as well.

I don't really follow the prototype race when I am there. There are too few for there to be much parody it seems to me. I mainly watch the manufacturers in LMS/ Le Mans and look at the technology.

You could probably tell from my photos, though. Pretty much all GT cars.
