    Real rs #406 nearing completion

After 4 1/2 years, we are now in final assembly.
photos below were taken during the last two months.
The guys completing assembly have asked if I can get shots of a number of items.
Firstly, the leather straps that hold the rear seats in place, and location of press stud.
The straps on my seats look original but are in poor condition, and shorter than we would expect.
Secondly the cover plate that fits below the Al front cross member

Any thoughts on replacement of these parts would be appreciated.

    Hi David,

The leather straps for the rear seats in my car are about 190 mm long, but that is only the amount sticking out of the back of the seat. I am not sure how much of the strap in inside the seat back. The snaps for the strap are mounted about 9 cm in from the outside edges of package tray cover.

    Hey David,

I was doing a some research for the metal part over the cross member and there are several different part numbers? Are you planning to use an 85L plastic tank in your RS? If so the part number for that is 911.341.025.01, which is NLA unfortunately.

There are also 2 rubber strips that go in front and rear of the plate. Those #s are (I think) 901.341.181.00 for the front and 901.341.166.00 for the rear.

edit: Looks like now you just use part # 901.341.165.00 on the front and back of the plate.

Bob at appbiz has the straps, just cut to the length required, they are nailed,(tacked) into the plywood seats just at the edge under the carpet but over the seat covering. Only about 1/2 an inch or so. Just enough for the tacks to grab.

    Thanks Brian and David,

    Hey Brian,
When I bought the car it had 110L tank. Not delivered new, but clearly factory fitted - as well there are mounts for a cage, and evidence of
holes in the hood for cibie lights. As you know I don’t have any history- suspect in the hands of the evil doktor.
    I also have a restored 85L tank.
If it were yours, would you leave the 100L tank, or go for the 85L?

85L would seem correct to me for an RS.

Yeah David, since you have a correct 85L tank I would put that one in 406 and keep the 110L tank for something else that will no doubt come along.

    David,

Justin and I are anxiously waiting for our invitations to the champagne unveiling in the mail !
Will you have a lovely young assistant to assist with the rollback of the covers ?
We look forward to this !

    Cheers,
    Dennis.

David, seeing how much time you spent to get all details right I would defenitely go for the 85l tank. I went through the same process with my #385, took my 2,5 year to get it perfect. Having original spec feels much better somehow and one day the market will definetely respect it.

If you would consider to not use your 110l for this or any other project let me please know. I am in the process of restoring a 2.8 RSR #865, a orig. Brumos and I am looking for a orig. 110l tank. I would pay a premium price.
