    Engine number 3281590 mag or alum?

    Can anyone tell me if this engine is aluminum or magnesium?
    And what model would this be out of?

    From a US delivery 1968 911 L, engine type 901/14... aluminum.

    Alum or Mag case

    Dave Pateman is doing the greatest study of early engines for sequence, material, numbers, (it's a sticky on this Technical Info lead page).

    One of his finds is this:

    location of serial, type & build #s for Aluminum cases (it faces the Back of the car); on Magnesium cases the serial # moves to the Side of the support:
