    Gas tank removal

I seem to have a gas leak in the tank area. It doesn't seem to be comming from the sender. I get a black tar from the gas melting the tank coating. Its along the front edge of the tank and it seeps on the garage floor. I've searched for a thread on tank removal but haven't found anything on this. I'm guessing a seem in the tank has developed a leak. I'm looking for a thread on removal in the search and haven't found one. Has anyone run into this issue?
    Thanks, Chris

Yes, and the leak was in the seam. The leading edge right near the battery !!
The Porsche / Audi dealer did the job on the car I now own and consisted of removal, reweld of the seperated seam, refit. It was successful, no more leak , smell, danger. Fire risk is now minimal , which is a good thing ;-)

The same deal showed up as a melted tar-like substance on the floor of the garage. Odor in the garage, inside the front trunk, etc.
It was on the Carrera, and happened to my friend who owned the car before selling to me, so do NOT know what the cost involved at the dealer, but they charge out at around the buck fifty an hour, and it was there for a whole day. They indicated it was not the first one they had seen do this. The guy who welded it ---was a sublet job--- has a radiator shop and filled the tank with water first then lit the fuse......glad I wasn't anywhere near it. Sounds like a one helluva way to make a living.........
Best wishes....sure someone else here has done a DIY and can give more info.
