The 911R Driver's Manual also mentions Dunlop 185 x 15 tyres fitted to both 6 & 7R wheels.

The 185 70 is what I use on the 7R rims and it looks very nice.

1970 VW Sunroof Kombi Bus - "The Magic Bus"
1973.5 911T Targa for fun - "Smokey"
2009 MB C300
I also use 185/70x15 on 7R and it is perfect on a SWB.
I have seen that 185/70x15 is called 185x15 in some manuals. Remember that this was early in the "low profile" life. I don't think they ever used 185x15 on these cars.

This is the relevant page from the 911R manual:
- remember, 'low profile' tyres (ie 70) didn't arrive until 1968.
However, I doubt that many - if any - of the 911R's used road tyres ...

185/70 is a tall tire, IMHO. When I had 7R wheels on the '67 I used 205/60x15. Fit fine, looked good. Utilized a 195/65/15 up front.
Harvey Weidman approved. Car wasn't "slammed". None of mine are because it requires more than just turning a screw or indexing a torsion bar.
As the '67 white car is a slug in comparison to anything modern it's been returned to bone stock as it left the factory. The R wheels are on the shelf as are the deep 6's. Now it looks as slow as it is. Nobody bothers it; just thumbs up from other drivers.
A set of Avon's would help handling a lot but there really is no point in beating a car that's lived a "charmed life". After 19 years with lots of opportunities to screw things up it's now become a hands off car.
Good luck in your endeavors.
