Wanted: Engine # 903879 belonging to my '66 slate gray 911, last seen in San Jose, CA

Hi all,

I recently bought a one family owned '66 911 from the same guy I bought '65 911 #300278 from. It's a gorgeous, well kept car and I plan to do a thorough photo shoot of it like I did with 300278. For now, this parking lot photo will have to do.

The guy I bought it from inherited it in 1986 from his uncle who ordered it new from the factory. He kept all the order documents and the window sticker! My 911 #303744 was built in Feb. 1966, and was delivered with engine 903879 which was one of the last Solex carburetor engines to leave the factory. Sometime in the late 70s or early 80s, the engine was replaced with a '67 911 engine 911062, built with E pistons and cams with Webers. I know it's a long shot, but I would really love to find the original engine for this car.

Some clues to help:

• The first owner's name was William D Arnett, an engineer with Lockheed working on military projects.
• He lived in Saratoga, CA for most of his life until he moved to Oregon in the last few years before 1986.
• There are some receipts during that time period from Norm Anderson VW & Porsche in San Jose, but nothing regarding an engine swap.
• The engine is a 901/1 Solex engine, but was produced after they stopped installing center lube cams.
