By the way Hugh's photo shows a small detail of an original RHD 911:
the heater controls are not centred on the dash. Nearer top than bottom, unlike LHD. A point not relevant to Ravi’s thread but it just caught my eye and reminded me if the RL peculiarity.

Mark, did you have to drill out the horn ring rivets in your wheel? Looks like it would have to to move the ring to the other side of the extender. I don’t think I want to touch my beautiful stock wheel.

Ravi it looks like you have the later '73 faux leather wheel. Any way the Aase extender is no big deal to install, it helps with knee clearance and other than the rivets you cannot see, it perfectly mimics the appearance of the factory piece.

Wheel is dated 2/73. And yes it is faux leather. I bought it from Mikael (on the ESR) in July 2012. It had never been mounted! Sounds like I should take a look at this. Aase has been good to me with pricing with all the stuff I have bought from them over the past 8 years!

Mine is a fat grip 380mm 914-6 wheel I purchased from a member here. I purchased a steering wheel cancel ring, extended hub horn contact pin, and the 30 mm hub from Aase. I want to say it was a plug and play installation but not sure so cannot guarantee 100% since I did this a few years ago.

Beautiful Mark. Working towards some kind of showcase in the garage for my car. That's inspiring.

Aase extender and long horn pin ordered. Thanks everyone.

Aase just let me know that they are waiting for new stock of the hubs, so it could be quite a while. So I cancelled that. Option 2 being explored right now in the classifieds.

Thanks to Allen, a fairly negotiated fat 380 mm wheel on one of Cornpanzer's hubs is heading my way. https://www.early911sregistry.org/fo...=1#post1063451
More money than I had intended on spending, but keeps the old wheel fully unmolested.

Early morning project was to remove the ‘74- trombone and install the proper oil cooler and soft lines. Woke up at 6 am to beat the heat, which has been excruciating. 90F by 11 am. Shouldn’t have taken me so long, but some gymnastics was needed to get everything tucked in. My car didn’t originally have a cooler, so Robert put the weld nuts in based on his memory of locations or one of his reference cars. Turns out his memory wasn’t perfect (ironic for a guy with a photographic memory). It didn’t matter for the ‘74- trombone which was just wedged in the fender. It had no mounting tabs. But the Porsche one does. Robert’s locations were about 5 mm too high (for reference the bottom hole should be a bit below the middle of the bump, not the top of the bump), which made getting the angled ends of the hoses squarely into the cooler a surprising challenge. Took 3 attempts, but finally, no leaks at those joints into the cooler. I had to bend the mounting tabs back, which cracked the paint on the top mounting tab. Will have to touch that up.

And it took to 11 am, at which point I went for a drive in the mid-day sun in my non-airconditioned car After touching up the paint where I whacked it with the handle of a crescent wrench. Always something...

The trombone may not be the most efficient radiator, but after 45 minutes of 90F cruising between 4k and 7k rpm, oil temps look fine at 190F. Even idling for 20 minutes as a test in the hot sun in a parking lot, the temp was just under 210F. Good enough for me. This is pretty much as hot as it gets here and I’m not typically driving when its that hot.
