Wow -what a story and beautiful car!!
Went for a drive Easter weekend. Started right up after 4 months of hibernation. Like right up. 1 second of cranking. All I did was pull the fuel pump wire and crank for 20s till I saw some oil pressure before replacing the wire. But have then been super busy and missed some lovely weather.
Today she came down on the lift and I replaced all the fuel system vent hoses with yellow McMaster-Carr ones. The original ones I had used were already hard as a rock after 2 years. I have yet to find clear tubing that holds up to gasoline vapour. Also replaced the Odyssey batteries (worked fine, looked wrong) with my Sonnenscheins that I got last fall. Modified to look like Vartas. Also replaced all the aluminium fuses with copper ones. Not shown in the picture is the cardboard fuse cover. I need to get the fuse cover bracket 999.651.128.00 which I assume holds the braided vent hose from the charcoal cannister?
Another question. Should the VIN stamp that is bare metal in the photo be body colour or black or bare? I’ve seen all 3. Robert left it bare, but of course it gets a bit of surface rust eventually.

One thing I have been chipping away at is turning the garage into a bright warm/cool space to work on Hilde. This included fake concrete ceiling tiles, redesigning a couple of trusses so I could raise her another 6 inches and not whack my head on the lift, Racedeck flooring, and ten 2x4 LED panels for bright, even light. And a side door that has no window, so the afternoon sun doesn’t bake the garage, and now swings out instead of in (my wife was nagging me on that one for a few years). Liftmaster side drive units to open up the space above. And a Mr. Cool heat pump for summer and winter comfort. All done by myself, but all made me sore. At 57 things ache a lot more than they used to!
A bit of trim to do, but with the current stay at home orders, browsing trim in any of the stores is not possible. And the walls need a nice coat of paint after multiple patches. Think I’ll farm that out.

I've only ever seen the VIN stamp painted black.
Where did you source those 2x4 LED panels? What did they set you back. Looks like a good lighting solution for my garage build. Thanks

Hi Brent,
They were quite a bit cheaper when I bought them last summer, but here’s a link from Amazon Canada. https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B07...?ie=UTF8&psc=1. They are available from lots of retailers in North America, so shop around. I got the daylight (5000K) ones but they also come in other colour temperatures.
You can mount them in a standard drop ceiling grid, or surface mount them as I did. You need frames for the surface mounting obviously.
Only 32W each, so 320W for all 10 that I installed. I mounted one sideways so it shines into the car.

Hi Ravi,
Not shown in the picture is the cardboard fuse cover. I need to get the fuse cover bracket 999.651.128.00 which I assume holds the braided vent hose from the charcoal cannister?
To my knowledge, only the ROW version that did not use the charcoal canister had the clip to hold the vent hose going out of the body. I am not sure if there is a hose exiting the body with a canister.

Cees
The raised area is just roughly painted over. It could be a wide brush or roller, and little runs are not important. You do want to cover all that is not in body colour though.

Awesome, thanks guys. So no clip needed and a brush with some black paint. Satin it looks like. Car was black when I bought it, so my pre pictures were useless.
Cees, the only tube that exits the body is the brake fluid overflow, and it is clear and much narrower in diameter than the clip. So definitely one less thing to worry about in the final details.
Also in the general vicinity of the VIN (toward the cowl) are 3 holes that need plugs. You can just see the first one in Dave's pic above. Have never been able to find any. Thoughts?
