I always knew I wanted to go this far. But I didn't have the money. Original budget was $25k to restore. Just wanted to get the motor going and drive for a while. But I knew if I did not attend to the underlying body problems, eventually she'd be a goner. Since I have no mortgage and a giant homeowners line of credit, I took the plunge. Not that I've used much of it. Robert has been very gentle with me and I do have a day job to keep replenishing the coffers.

Some more bling. Finished 18 months ago and just waiting to go back in the car. That starts next week with the NOS Gruppe ivory hexagonal headliner.

Ravi, Did you have the replating done locally? Looks real nice.

Robert has it done locally in Toronto. All tumbled in his shop and then sent out. He uses a specific place for his plating (not sure where in the GTA), and he has some ultra-low mile reference cars to check finishes, so the plating shop gets it right.

Plating for the seat recliners, rails and stuff I did. Caswell in the kitchen, as documented in my seat hinge repair thread linked earlier.

We see a lot of COAs on this site. But I have never seen an LOA - Letter of Authentication. Obtained by a previous owner in 1991 (and also an Early S registry member according to the database). One of the few who loved the car. Most receipts I have are from him. Note that Porsche replied 6 days after he mailed his letter to Germany from Canada. Can you imagine that happening in 2014 ? Some things indeed were better in the old days.

That's really cool. I've never seen something like that, and agreed- the same response may not happen today.

I also read this thread for first time. Great story.

Agreed! All it takes is time, talent, and money. You have all three at work quite nicely.

Brian, thanks for the recommendation for Robert's shop. Outstanding. Would ya believe that with a lot of judiscious shopping and sweat equity, I have not quite crossed 6 figures, including the purchase price ? I did most of my parts shopping when the Canadian dollar was stronger than the US$. It really is all about finding the right guy who you trust and who trusts you. I'm really in your debt for helping me find that guy.

You are very welcome Ravi. I am pleased to see and read of the ongoing work on your 911. Also pleased to know you have done this in a very economical way, yet you have one of the best craftsman I know of restoring your car.

I really hope to get up to Toronto to see Rob's place first hand. Maybe by the time I do your car will done and you can take me out for a spin.
