Not unless they are on this board. Thing is, I’m not the only one to have had issues, I know of 3 others on this board, all well known and respected, who have had similar issues. OTOH, he does have plenty of happy clients and a multi-year waiting list for his services. So go figure?!

I’ll just be happy to get my car back and start driving it.

Update from the oracle in Bolton.

Engine all sorted out and flat spots removed. He had to grind 6 cam blanks to get the final profile he liked. Part of the issue was a subtle binding of the cam follower stylus leading to some hysteresis. Sorted out now. We now have 12.9-13.6 AFR at 4400 rpm from barely open throttle to WOT. Stock numbers are 10.8 right off idle, 15.5 in the mid range and 14 at 7000 rpm.

Here are the discarded experiments! I'm used to editing fuel maps with a computer. Not a black marker whose wear you read out!

Car is running. Well. Accelerates so hard that the speaker grilled popped out of the dash. Pulls strong well past 7600 rpm, but peak power at 7100. Couple of little things left for Robert to sort out. He's going to touch up the undercoat where I scrapped the edge of my lift because the front end of the car was too low after it settled (I also put the seats and underlayment and carpets in the car last summer, so that added some weight I imagine). He adjusted the ride height to be where it should be. Needs to attend to a small oil drip from the drivers bottom valve cover and put in the rear sway bar.

I had installed a Partsklassik CDI box (the refurb unit that goes in the original Bosch CDI box). It never drove the tach properly even though it should given the vintage of my tach, which is a Feb '73 date stamp. So I had to get a tach signal adapter. It was set wrong though, showing 1100 rpm when the car was at 850. Easy to fix, but he has to get in behind the cardboard cover to get to the tach.

He washed the car at his house on Sunday. His 2 year old son washed his truck at the same time.

Tomorrow is thunderstorms, so he is aiming to trailer it over on Wednesday after one final day of shakedown.

    Can't wait!

The young lad will have to watch out. That tow rig he has is a target: 4 homicides, at least 30 arsons in last 3 years connected to towing turf war in Toronto area!

    Home at last.

Delivered this afternoon. Thanks to all the moral support on the ESR, I got through this. And almost like magic, yesterday's kidney function test has gone from 4% to 53% after a new drug, so life is looking up (should be 75% for someone my age, but hey, I'll take it!!!).

All sorts of little details to sort out, starting with the front hood shocks. The new ones I had installed are so strong they distort the hood. I have a couple of the mechanically latching ones from Rennline to install this afternoon. Right now, I'm going for a short drive (no A/C and it is darn hot here).

Have to get a new CDI box. The Partsklassik one really is crap. Cuts out at 5200 rpm no matter where you set the rev limiter. Old spare from Robert runs all the way to 8000 rpm where the MFI piston float starts to become noticeable.

More details later, but as CM says, time for a drive.

Ravi, great to hear you in possession of your car again. I've been following this thread and cannot imagine all you've been through. Even better news on your health! Enjoy working on the little things the car needs. That's all part of the joy of ownership for me.

Ravi, this is the best news! Your health is your wealth - I have it on good authority that the more you drive your 911 the more your kidney function test improves!!!! So happy for you that this thread has gone full circle: “Going to see a fantastic 1973 911S tomorrow” - you can say that EVERY day now!!!!!!!!!!
