    pressure sensor 901.741.551.01 on a -67

    Hi guys,
I am grateful if someone could help me a bit.

On my -67 with green gauges I have a pressure sensor marked 901.741.551.01. Can this be used with the gauge with green numbers, or should the -67 perhaps have another pressure sender?

    Thanks,
    Johan H

    Johan,

That is the right part number. If you look at the sender itself it should have M10x1.0 Parallel threads (NOT tapered).

What is the date code, this is stamped into the hexagonal portion above the threads.

The tapered thread version is the aftermarket one, a lot cheaper, but not necessarily the right resistance range.

thanks for the info, I'm not sure if the thread is tapered while threre is a adpator installed on the sender, and I wouldn't like to take it apart while the joint doesen't leak oil.

It is a VDO part, so I suppose it is original. On the hexagonal portion it says 12.70 which I suppose is Dec. 1970, it also says: 0-10 Kp/cm2, 29/27.

Does this sound as the correct sender for a -67 gauge?

The problem is I have a freshly rebuilt engine and I'm seeing oil pressures in the range of 40-50 max. My mechanic claimed he had measured the pressure and that it is very good, but I would want to verify myself.

I'll attach a pic of the sensor

    Cheers,
    Johan

Well yes, that sounds like an original version sender, the 0-10 equates to 140 psi which is correct for your gauge. How will you screw that sender with that brass adapter into the straight 10mm thread on your engine? When you say you're only getting 50 psi max is that with cold oil when you rev the engine to 4-5000 RPM? If so that isn't near high enough, you should be seeing over 100 psi under that condition. Did your mechanic install an SC oil pressure relief spring kit? They use a softer spring and normally all you see from them is 6o-70 psi at best.
