    Whats up with Chrome Rims?

Is it really necessary to split the rims for an early long hood, re-chrome and weld them back together? Can rims just be “re-chromed” as is? I see where 6x15’s are available and the cost is…well up there for my son’s ’66 911 restoration. Just trying to find out the inside scoop before getting a second mortgage to buy chrome rims…;-)

    Any help will be appreciated!

    Hello Glenn,

We split them when chroming steel wheels. The main reason is simply one of access. It is very difficult to polish right into those areas. Splitting them is not that hard, we then have a jig used to weld them back together and 99% the wheels are truer once we are finished and take less wheel weight.
