Keep factory air (upgraded) or not?

I'm buying a '72 E that has factory installed A/C (as well as a front oil cooler). It needs upgrading with contemporary parts, of course, but that begs the question of whether I should keep it or have it removed and the various holes dealt with. I'm told it will work pretty well when upgraded, but I'm not fond of the look inside the cabin and the intrusion of the vents below the dash. Of course, I don't know how often I will use it. Cost issues aside, any advice?

It depends on how you use the car and where you live. I live in Southern California and I drive the canyons mostly at night so my A/C remains boxed up in my garage. Were I ever to sell my car I would definitely include it in the sale because its original to the car.

Boy, no kidding. In Texas, you'd have to be crazy to abandon the AC.

At this stage I would not remove any factory equipment from my car. Actually with an upgraded compressor and a serpentine from and rear condensers with r12 they work pretty well. One of these days I'll add a Griffiths auxiliary condenser and evaporator, but mine seems to work pretty well for now. I have a VW of America unit, dealer installed but output wise I think they are about the same as the Behr.
