    Smile The Most Desirable Porsches

I found this article very interesting. It is on CNBC.com. If you cannot click on it to open it then, copy & paste this address in your browser, http://soc.li/0OkhqCP.

With my limited knowledge and study I had the following questions:

    1. Does anyone have any idea where the "priceless" number 1 Porsche 356 (1948) is?

    2. There where many more years of the long hood 911Ss than the articles' yrs of (1967/1969). The years of the "S" were 1966 to 1973, right?

    3. Is there a Carrera RS of 1974? There are the desirable 1974 or 1975 Carreras, as well, but not mentioned.

    4. Surprised that the 959 is in excess of $1M?

    Enjoy!

I've seen that before and wondered....The most desirable or the most expensive? Maybe there was something lost in the traslation. I wonder who was their go-to guy that made up that list. Clearly someone that is not very knowledgeable about Porsches IMHO.
    BTW #1 is at Porsche.

His list is pretty inconsistent with regard to any particular criteria. Some cars are priceless enough, such as #1, but others aren't exactly widely desired, such as the 924. There are also some obvious errors, including not only the years of the S but the price of the 959, which hasn't traded near the million dollar mark for some time. I'm willing to hold back criticism of Raskin, however, because you never know what the CNBC folks did to his copy when he turned it in.

#1 I think Porsche has it - it is Mid-Engined

#2 The Writers Years & Values were off on several Models

#3 Yes there was a 74 Carrera RS ( I had one) Euro Only. The 74 & 75 US Carreras were dress-up models only - don't flame me, I like them.

    #4 You can get a 959 for a lot less than $1Mil

[QUOTE=carr911;579247#3 Yes there was a 74 Carrera RS ( I had one) Euro Only, same MFI Motor as the 73. The 74 & 75 US Carreras were dress-up models only - don't flame me, I like them.

Yes, european 1974-1975 Carrera 2.7 had the same engine of the 1973 Carrera RS but it was never badged "RS". A 1974 carrera RS does not exist.

    .... A 1974 carrera RS does not exist ....

I believe there were 109 3.0 RSs made in the '74 MY.
6 in RHD - this is the ex James Hunt car - ch 99.

    Cheers,
    Dennis.
1970 914-6 - materialised from the 'Lotto' garage into reality
    1971 2.2 911 S - now back in the UK - sob!
1975 Carrera Targa (ROW) - missed.

And then there also was the 1976 Euro Carrera, a special homologation model, which is the rarest of them all; only 123 built (some say 113, since Porsche usually did not use the first ten digits). These also have a number with a 9 in them, just like the RSR's and are equipped with the 2.7 RS engine. LSD standard and no electric windows to save weight.

Incorrect! In 1974, there was both a RS & RSR - the RSR had 330 HP

Carr 911 is correct. 50 or so 1974 RSR, and 15 or so 1975 RSR. Also 1974 RS, I forget the production numbers. Try chewing up your own time and do some research on these very easy questions

My computer is just as smart as I am, it won't allow me to log onto anything CNBC, or NBC, or MSNBC!!! Too bad the article wasn't on Fox....then the facts would be correct!!!
