Weber IDS carbs with "S" stamp beneath spring tab

I thought this was interesting: I just finished a set of IDS carbs with the "S" stamp; the "S" stamp was used to denote special jetting in standard IDA throttle bodies as used on the earliest "S" engines before the incorporation of the high speed enrichment nozzles which are unique to the IDS series of throttle bodies. The serial numbers for this pair are: 40IDS3C #174 and 40IDS3C1 #54. They were purchased separately so there isn't a chassis/engine number associated with these. (The "S" stamps are visible under the nuts used to secure the spring tabs.)

As usual note the various finishes used on the steel bits of these early Webers: silver zinc plate most everywhere except the main venturi grub screws and the yellow chromated vent pipes. The adjustable pump rods are a requested upgrade.

I restored a 911S last year which was built in September 1966 which had these carbs.
The car was featured in the Esses magazine last spring issue.

Right; however these are a little different in that they are IDS bodies with the "S" stamp; not IDA bodies with the "S" stamp as is the norm for the earliest of the S engined cars.

I have a pair of IDS Carbs with IDS designation, #71 and #79 both stamped with the S as in the above photograph.

The car they are associated with is matching number and has an October 1966 build date and booster jets.

They have been replaced by IDTPs by a 'Porsche' Specialist - completely dismantled, thrown into a cardboard box, two of the brass floats have been crushed, 4 of the booster jets lost and left outside in a open car port for 4 years.

We are in the process of making booster jets and trying to restore them to good order so they can go back onto the car they were originally removed from.
