Proper steering wheel for Canada 1973 911S

Can somebody tell me what the proper steering wheel for a 1973 911S is ? I've read varying accounts all over the inter web.

I think it should be 911 347 082 00, but I see it variously described as foam, hard rubber, plastic material (in the OEM parts list) or leather in various places. I think this is plastic, that some have recovered in leader to make a 911 347 084 00 version which is described as leather in the OEM parts list, but for the Carrerra 2.7 only
I also see 911 347 083 05 as plastic material in the OEM parts list with extended hub.

    I think the '73S still came with a leather 400mm wheel - 911.347.081.10

The 'lesser' models in '73 got the 'foam' (imitation leather) wheel as std but E (& possibly T) models could opt for the leather wheel too.

    The Porsche parts catalog says

911.347.082.00 is leather steering wheel for up to 72 for the S; option on T and E.

It lists 911.347.082.00 plastic material wheel for S,T,E and 911.347.082.05 plastic material with extended hub for S,T,E as the only '73 choices. The only leather wheel is for the C 2.7 in 1993.

I have a vague recollection of RObert Gross or someone telling me that wheels were plastic in 73, in which case they are a heck of a lot cheaper too !

This is an answer (yet also a question included).

On a US dealers POAC document , the option 470 (appearance group for T & E) for 1973MY lists 'leatherette' covered steering wheel. This is a mistake ...and the cover was leather ? Or was it actually a simulated leather ?

    Yep. My boo boo. Porsche's catalog KAT 574 updated 20.01.2010 shows 901.347.081.10 as a leather steering wheel for -72 S, -72 T & E

911.347.082.00 is steering wheel, plastic material 73- all but not for C 2.7. I have seen leather covered steering wheels with this part number, which must be restorations I guess.

    I cannot find a part number for a leather 73- steering wheel for a 911S. Only the C 2.7.

And my VIN 0854, also a Texas delivery should not have been any different. It's 24 numbers later than yours. Less than a week apart.

Just not my day for getting numbers right ! Misdialed my wife 3 times this afternoon before I remembered her cell # correctly.

Fact remains, I cannot find a part number in the official Porsche parts list for a leather 73- steering wheel for a 911S (or E or T). Just the C 2.7.
